Imagine that you’re driving down your neighborhood streets, humming along to your radio and enjoying the bright sunny day, when the inevitable question flashes across your mind. “Did I leave the garage open?” Panic! Terror! Dread! A torrent of emotions washes over you as you realize that maybe, just maybe, you forgot to do something that was once habit. But you can’t be certain that you didn’t close it, either. Is it worth the trip to go home and double check? Can you trust your instincts? Is the quick trip to the store a safe period of time to leave it open? The easy solution to this, of course, is to build a moat on your driveway that refuses to open until you’ve closed the garage door. That, or you purchase one of many IoT-enabled devices that hardwire themselves into your garage door opener, spend a day trying to get it to connect to the proper network, then worry for the rest of your life that someone else is going to steal your login credentials and play red-light-green-light with your house.
